External Meeting Request Form for Administrator E. Scott Pruitt U.S. Environmental Protection Agency To request the Administrator to attend and/or speak at your event, please complete and submit the following form. Today's Date: Tuesday, May 9, 2017 Meeting Date: Wednesday, May 24, 2017 Meeting Time: 11:15am eastern Requested Location (if offsite, please list address, parking instructions, etc.): EPA headquarters or a location of the Administrator's choosing near downtown Washington, DC. Requestor: Ryan Flickner, Senior Director of Public Policy, Kansas Farm Bureau Purpose of the Meeting: To discuss National Ambient Air Quality Standards and the annual Flint Hills burn season in Kansas. Background on the Meeting: Our main concern is the challenge of needing a prescribed fire to maintain the natural ecosystem of the Flint Hills in Kansas and the Osage Hills in Oklahoma and how smoke from these necessary fires impact the ozone and PM2.5 standards. Exceedances or violations of a national ambient air quality standard directly related to prescribed fires in the Flint Hills and Osage Hills is becoming a challenge to manage. In 2011, Sens. Inhofe and Moran introduce a bill addressing this issue: https://www.moran.senate.qov/public/index.cfm/news-releases?ID=dc891dd7-ad7c-4d8f-83f7aa7c4b644b3f This year the media has written a number of stories: http://cionline.com/news/state-qovernment/local/2017-04-18/burninq-questions-traditioneconomics-cloud-debate-prairie http://journalstar.com/news/local/article 420984a8-e0a3-546e-a36d-7333898b551f.html http://iournalstar.com/news/state-and-reqional/nebraska/choked-up-about-kansas-smokecollaboratjon-might-help-more-than/article f245db74-84bd-522a-8de8-af6f51d72da9.html Role of the Administrator: Listen to the concerns of Kansas Farm Bureau members and, if possible, offer suggestions for a workable solution moving forward. 17cv1906 Sierra Club v.
