I am in receipt of your 1981 Hay 7 memo to Patterson (Safety Dept.) , regard , ing his safety inspection. Under Itea -D reference is made to asbestos dust - clean-up, etc. This has bean brought to our attention by Hr. Patterson and The Travelers; how ever, the problea vhioh you and Mr. Patterson desoribe seeas to be aore extensive than ve had initially realised. As a result, please find enclosed a copy of the Reynolds prograa for deaolitlon and/or removal of asbestos-oontaining aaterial. Striot adherence to these guidelines is nsosssary, to ensurs minimum employee exposure to asbestos fibers as wall as compliance with existing OSHA regulations. Ve will be happy to send aoaeone from this department to Stratford to carry oat the esboatos monitoring program. On the other hand, ve will be glad to assist your personnel In carrying out this function in-house. One other possibility would be to have the asbestos removed by an- outside con tractor that specialises in this type work. This may, of course, be the method of choice, since the contractor would have the proper equipment and know-how to conduct this job with minimum asbestos exposure to his as wall as HABFCO employees. Utilising this approach would also eliminate the need to follow the enclosed guidelines on asbestos removal and/or demolition. In any event, please notify this department, so that ve may take the necessary steps to ensure the protection of RABFCO employees and compliance with existing OSHA regulations. f, Ronald E.
