Johnson Date 8/1/75 Subject POWER FAILURE On July 24, 1975, at approximately 11:55 a.m., the Aberdeen Sub-Station breaker tripped causing a power failure to the plant for approximately fifteen (15) minutes. At the time of the power failure, D-300 Reactor was down. D-400 was approximately three (3) hours into the run. D-500 had been running for approximately five (5) hours and D-600 was on heat-up. Kenneth Bishop, Panel Operator, gave word to isolate the plant air and open the emergency N2 bottles., Then he gave word to fill the portable N2 bombs with AMS and prepare to kill D-400 D-500. After approximately five (5) minutes after the power failure, I gave word to turnon the fire monitors and to set off the Deluge System. All field operators came to the Control Room for Scott Air Paks and I went and turned off the.M.C.C. I then went to the Dryer Room to get their Century Unit after it was determined that our unit was out of hydrogen. This unit was also out of hydrogen. I called Charles Flynn at the Lab to bring a Century Unit to the Dryer Control Room. At this time, the Panel Operator had already opened the small inert vent on D-400 D-500. These stayed .open for approx imately five (5) minutes, venting approximately 400-600#'s of V.C. to the atmosphere. After approximately fifteen (15) minutes of power outage, the power.came back on. I then went to the MCC and turned the switches back on.. Frank Willson checked the area out with a Century Unit and 25 ppm Whs the highest reading. D. f.
