I have studied a copy of your letter to Dr. de Priester and fully understand your views on the question of his desire to undertake routine lead analyses. I note that Mr. Tully has also received a copy of this letter. You may recall there was a certain amount of nervousness on the part of the doctors in the Dutch East Indies as to the specific dangers of handling Ethyl Fluid in the early negotiations regarding their appointment. Dr. Hammaeher especially was diffident, as you mil see if you refer to your letter to me dated the 20th December, 1938, in reply to mine of the 8th December, 1938. As a matter of interest I am enclosing a copy of a medical report received from Dr. Hammaeher covering the blending plant at Bandaran. I have made no comment on this, but I wondered if you, yourself, would care to offer any opinion in view of the fact that the specific statement is made that the man is suffering from the first signs of poisoning. The action in removing the man from Ethyl blending is, of course, entirely justified since he is currently employed in soldering of tins, this being a definite breach by the Oil Company of our regulation that no man subjected to any other lead exposure shall be employed on Ethyl blending. 0 if i 3 3 A % 17*F0SSETT.
