ETHYL CORPORATION OP CANADA LIMITED Memorandum of Meeting with Department of Health and Welfare Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island Subject: HIGHER TETRAETHYL LEAD CONTENT IN MOTOR FUEL The meeting waa held in Charlottetown at 11:15 A.M., Tuesday, January 27, I960* Present were Dr. Owen H. Curtis, Deputy Minister of Health, Mr. H.J. Philp and Dr. D.R. Warren. Mr. Philp presented the economic justification for increasing the permissible limit of tetraethyl lead in motor fuel to 4 mis. per U.S. gallon. Dr. Warren presented the industrial hygiene philosophy of the Company with reference to the pamphlet, U.S. Public Health Service Bulletin #712, ''Public Health Aspects of Increasing Tetraethyl lead Content in Motor Fuel", and discussed the significance of the increase. In Prince Edward Island there will be no blending operations, the automotive fuel being imported. Storage, tank cleaning and distribution of automotive fuel are the only concerns. Dr. Curtis was not alarmed about the change but was pleased to have the information in advance. The essentially rural sociology raises little problem of air pollution at the present time. No other representatives of the Department of Health were in attendance. The meeting concluded at noon. The opportunity arose through Dr. L. G. Dewar, Minister of Education of the province, to meet the provincial Premier, 2 Prince Edward Island Department of Health Meeting - January 27, i960 the Honourable Alexander W. Mhtheson, in the government building earlier in the day..
