LETSINGER DAVENPORT WORKS RE: INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE COMMITTEE MEETING A meeting of the above committee was held May 28, 1963, at 12:30 p.m. in the small dining room of the main cafeteria. Attending the meeting were Messrs. G. J. Myers, B. T. Evans, B. L. Tiedemann, C. L. Huey, W. F. Kneeland, R. J. Nemetz, J. E. Hatch and J. H. Lowry. The ventilating system for the 160" mill has now been installed and performs satisfactorily. An air conditioning unit has been ordered for the 160" mill crane cab and shipment is due this week. The ventilators for the scalper area have been installed but additional work will be necessary for satisfactory ventilation. Mr. Kneeland pointed out that the chip exhaust system for which an R for A is now prepared will greatly'improve the condition in this area but.this installation is not due until next year. Revisions to the duct work of the 2020 furnace are being made this week. Sampling will be performed as soon as possible after these final revisions are complete. Disposal of Alodine wastes from the paint line remains as reported at the last meeting. . The fume exhaust system installation in the No. 4 laminator area Is almost complete and Mr. Evans will notify the lab when samples should be taken. r 4M3 MINTCO IN U.S.A. Faint and solvent fumes have been sampled in the coater house and samples sent to Research for analysis. Samples of each coating being applied and description of the thinner used were included with the atmospheric samples to aid in evaluation. The ventilation changes in the coater house recommended by Dr. Cralley and described in the last minutes should be complete by the next Hygiene Committee Meeting. It has been the policy to take atmospheric samples when equipment is normally scheduled for operation under circumstances that would provide for representative samples of the condition in question. In some cases grievances have been pending and this procedure has resulted in a delay in the answer. All such cases should be called to the attention of the Chairman of the Industrial Hygiene Committee.
