Grumbles Date April 17, 1980 Subject TSCA 8(e) REPORT ON EDC TARS VAPOR The subject report was filed on 3/23/79 and is attached for reference. Chemical analyses of EDC Tars were obtained and a review of the chem icals present in the samples reviewed for known or suspect toxic pro perties in relation to the observed effects. Copies of these analyses are also attached. The analytical data show that the tar can contain up to 2% chlorinated benzenes as well as other halogenated aromatic chemicals. These chem icals are known to be skin irritants and to a lesser degree skin sensi tizers. While the percentage of the mentioned compounds is low in the tars the dose needed to produce effects is relatively low. Based on this information and the fact that the halogenated aromatics are documented in the literature to cause symptoms similar to those observed we do not feel that this is a reportable incident under section 8(e) of TSCA. s ): ' Thomas G.
