That is why I have not replied promptly to your earlier letter. I acknowledge with thanks the letter of April 9, with the two cheques, which have been duly forwarded to the proper persons. I believe it would be best for you, rather than for me, to make the approach to Dr. Fitzhugh. My reason^ios in the possibility that he and his associates in F.D.A. may/^regard our investigation as conclusive for their purposes. Should this be the case, he (or others) will have no hesitation in stating the case to you, whereas it might be embarrassing to them (and later to you) to raise such an issue directly with me at this time. Certainly this would be certain to come out later, and it would be better for you to know the worst at once. X am fully agreed, however, that X should accompany you at this meeting (unless Dr. Fitzhugh should wish it otherwise).
