Industrial Hygiene Asbestos Exposure Monitoring
Attached are the results of the Asbestos monitoring done on three insulators and one laborer near Building 9, Institute Plant. There were 3 insulators and 3 laborers on the job. The monitoring was done while they stripped Asbestos from the bottom half of tank No. 1037. The area was barricaded and posted for the Asbestos hazards. Plastic sheeting was placed on the ground below and water was used to wet the insulation.
All workers were equipped with a half-face dust cartridge respirator, disposable coveralls, head sock, gloves, and boots. The protective equipment was removed and disposed when leaving the area and new equipment was used upon returning to the job.
The sample results indicate that the exposures, of all who were monitored, were well below the permissible exposure level of 2 fibers per cc of air, established by OSHA.
