Extract from Abadan Memorandum Mo 36127 dated 14-5-45
Subject: Lead Hazard.
"Considerable improvements have been made in our operation in general, but.one aspect still causes concern, that is thef frequency with -which abnormal lead in urine tests are obtained, from tfiefP.O.D workers. These results have been obtained despite the fact that th men have had very slight contact with leaded spirit. One aspect, which we have as yet had insufficient time to examine, is the psaslbilitir of ingestion of lead derived from terns plate used for can mafiWteeturdl?^ IWe are therefore extending our control during March in the.-PiO>D. to include:-
(1) Press tool operators#-- ^exposed'to terne plate only.
(2) Solder shop operatoria^- exposed to terne plate and solder.
(3) Pilling operators- " exposed to terne plate and leaded spirit.

At present soraef'of these men\ aie ^provided with barrier cream and gloves. The cream may not be effective over the whole day and gloves wear out very rapidly.--^Washing facilities/are adequate but complete supervision of a large group.'of"ladn is somewhat' difficult.
It must be emphasised"that none of the men in the appended list show the slightest symptdns of lead intoxication.
