To let Dr. Spiel know that UCC has not done any abrasion testing of asbestos containing paper. 2. To attempt to get a copy of their work on migration from paper into liquid. OBSERVATIONS Dr. Spiel was disappointed we had nothing on the abrasion testing but appreciated our checking. Referred me to Mr. Carter re release of the technical data. Mr. Carter agreed to send us a copy of the paper. They also have some work in progress re abraision testing. I did not ask for a copy of this. It will eventually be submitted to the FDA. We can probably get it then. J-M has also run liquid tests with straight asbestos rather than talc and found no migration. I chose not to ask for these. Mr. Carter is an attorney and mentioned the anomolous point that the FDA is moving to ban talc containing asbestos but not pure asbestos. This same point has been noted by Mr. Fusaro. We also discussed the Minnesota water hearings. He noted that Dr. Nicholson was on the stand for four days last week and was badly "chopped up" by both the judge and the Reserve Mining attorney. Dr. Selikoff is due to appear soon but is being very reluctant. The judge has mentioned a subpoena if he doesn't show voluntarily. RECOMMENDED ACTION JLM Occasional contact with Carter.
