Mike Foster ,-TO FIND OUT MORE (The NAPA Machine Shop continued) NAPA Engine Parts offers a multi-level machine shop program to: 1). assist NAPA Jobbers contemplating opening a machine shop operation; and 2). to advance the training of machinists employed by NAPA Jobbers already enjoying the benefits of a machine shop. If you do not now operate a machine shop but are interested in the possibility of doing so, you may wish to attend the NAPA Machine Shop Seminar. This 8-hour seminar, presented at NAPA Distribution Centers and conven ient locations across the country, is design ed to teach you how to go about estab lishing a machine shop operation, as well as how to determine whether or not such a venture would be profitable for your business. The program covers in detail all areas of machine shop operation and adminis tration, including choosing and financing equipment (lease versus purchase), shop layout, work flow, hiring and pay plans, and figures for calculating profitability. This seminar has also proven to be very beneficial to NAPA Jobbers who current ly offer very basic machine shop services but are interested in expanding their shop operation. If your store already offers machine shop services, you should probably con sider sending your machinist(s) to the NAPA Machine Shop Training School. Offered free of charge to NAPA Jobbers' machinists and located at Dana's Technical Training Center near Toledo, Ohio, the course instructs machinists in the most up- to-date machine shop techniques and technologies. More than a half-million dollars worth pf equipment from a variety of suppliers is used so students learn to operate all different types of equipment. Presently, the week-long course turns out machinists qualified to recondition all types of cylinder heads -- cast iron and aluminum, foreign and domestic, passen ger car and truck. The program will be expanded in June of 1983 to include instruction in various engine block services as well.
