II. SPECIAL TESTING '

A. Resin Plant 1. Raw Material
a. Mothoccl
A meeting was held with Dow representatives (G. Ervin and J. Ilolten) on 6/29/73, the topic of which was the high metallic count (100(H) found in at least three of the five lots of a 2000-lb shipment of 65I1G 50 cps Methocel. The shipment was sent to Tenneco in error, due to the neglect of the distrib utor to advise Dow as to the identification of the customer. Dow has agreed to take back 14 bags of this shipment. The re maining 26 bags will be used only if needed in the plant.
2. In-Process a, VCM Material Balance
Emphasis in this program was shifted to refinement of a method for low level analysis of residual monomer (410 ppm) in plastisol resins and preparation of standards. Work on LOP 982 has been discontinued by Process Engineering due to higher priority items.
b. Filter Cloth Evaluation
The cloth type NY76W42 shows excellent filtration rates (1500 lbs+) after about four weeks' use. Process Engineering sug gested the use of this cloth as a standard for Tenneco.
B. Compound Plant
1. Raw Materials
A total of 9 lead assays and 6 plasticizer evaluations were per formed .
2. Stauffer SCC-676
A VOR 73-1 Clear Green compound manufactured with this resin as a substitute for T-225 showed high gel levels. A long dry blend time (15.4) and fines (9%) thru 200 mesh, as well as large agglom erates noted during microscopic analysis, indicated the need for an increase in shear during processing.
C. Flemington Plant 1. Impact Modifier Program
COLOR!TE 013944

This program was supported with 12 haze 'and luminous transmittance analyses.
\ 2* Pilot Riant, Jjargc Reactor Program
A slurry sample and an effluent water sample were analyzed for sidual VCM and toluene.
