Hearons - T6 AUG 1 1 BE V.R. Ojeda - SP Owtni Corning Fib Modicsi & Hoolth CONFIDENTIAL I am writing as a follow up to a discussion with Jim Hearons over the subject of mineral wool monitoring. In view of the IARC classifications, combined with our corpo rate programs, Jim asked that I contact you to obtain some direction for us to take in Brazil, We have a small Rockwool production unit with a capacity of 300 MT/mo. and current production of 200 MT/mo. The factory in Guararema outside Sao Paulo is over 30 years old. We have approximately 200 employees. Further, in a separate building we produce Kaylo using the OCF specifica tions. Prior to our acquisition in 1979 there, was asbestos used as the reinforcement in Kaylo (small %). * The factory was cleaned in 1979. The issue is that while world-wide the mineral fiber materials are being evaluated for health effects, Brazil is only now be ginning to consider what they will do with asbestos. My feeling is that if you recommend a monitoring program that we conduct it privately on a low profile basis and use a pro gram that would be designed in the U.S. Qg 407 3622 I'll look forward to your comments and recommendations and please let me know if I can help with further information. &!*?/*?, N/b * Mi * &o n/, J `u. n
