Shanghai Health Study - Update to API Special Programs Committee

Presented by Patsy Clegg, Chair Oversight Committee, Benzene Health Research Consortium
Talking Points:
1. All contracts, with the exception of Fudan University and the QAlQC contractor, have been executed.
2. Sufficient funds to support the revised budget have been committed by 4 of the sponsors.
o Chevron will not be paying any of their committed funds until all contracts are executed.
3. Currently, milestones are being met and payments are being made.
o One exception is delays in reimbursing Cinpathogen for expenses in excess of $75 when there is no receipt
o API is not paying other SHS expenses claiming that these are "Corporate" expenses unrelated to SHS
o The ongoing nonpayment of these legitimate expenses risks significant adverse consequences for API and the Consortium members
4. The QAlQC process is functioning. A contractor to oversee the process has been identified, but not yet contracted.
5. The time line for the study:
o June 2007:

AML cases stopped being collected. Test data set transferred to Applied Health Sciences NHL cases will stop being collected. Data analysis and publications Benzene Health Research Consortium will dissolve.
6. API staffers who will be visiting China later this year to open an office in China will visit the study laboratory at Fudan University in Shanghai, although, I believe that Dr. Irons does not know about these plans
