The FLAIR p r o g r a m has p r o v e n i t s e l f as a valuable tool in aiding in the a n a ly sis of bloodfC-8 d a t a . A ll b lo o d sam p les were a n a l y z e d by t h e C-8 s p e c i f i c method. D a ta r e c o r d e d i n FLAIR by 6 / 2 4 / 8 2 a r e u s e d i n t h i s summary. C o m p a r i s o n s a r e made b e tw e en t h e d a t a r e c o r d e d i n FLAIR up t o O c t o b e r , 1981 w i t h c o r r e s p o n d i n g d a t a up t o d u n e , 1982. The fo llo w in g o b s e rv a tio n s a re made: FEP O p e r a t o r s a r e e x p e r i e n c i n g an o v e r a l l d r o p i n b l o o d C-8 l e v e l s o f 23%. The d e c r e a s e f o r t h o s e O p e r a t o r s w i t h o v e r 700 days of service is s ta t is t ic a ll y sig n ific a n t a t the 0.05 level using the paired t- te s t. Fine Powder O perators are e x p e rien c in g an o v e r a ll drop in blood C-8 l e v e l s o f 12%. G r a n u l a r O p e r a t o r s a r e e x p e r i e n c i n g a d r o p o f 22%. The d e c r e a s e s f o r O p e r a t o r s w i t h o v e r 700 d a y s o f service is not yet s ta tistic a lly significant. B l o o d C-8 l e v e l s i n new TEFLON e m p l o y e e s ( t h o s e w i t h l e s s t h a n 700 days o f s e r v i c e ) are i n c r e a s i n g . However, t h e i r l e v e l s are increasing a t a slower rate than they were in previous years. The a v e r a g e r a t e o f i n c r e a s e f o r TEFLON F i n e Po w der Zone 4 O p e r a t o r s u s i n g d a t a c o l l e c t e d up to O c t o b e r , 1981 was 0.0019 ppm/day, Using only 1982 data, the average ra te of increase has dropped to 0.0004 ppm/day. Fine Powder Zone 6 O perators co ntinue to have th e h ig h e s t blood C-8 l e v e l s . They a v e r a g e 8 ppm and r a n g e a s h i g h a s 26 ppm. TEFLON Zone 6 O p e r a t o r s h a v e h i g h e r b l o o d C- 8 l e v e l s t h a n TEFLON Zone 4 O p e r a t o r s . T h i s i s b e c a u s e C - 8 a c c u m u l a t e s in t h e body o v e r t im e * Zone 6 O p e r a t o r s h a v e w o r k e d i n TEFLON much l o n g e r t h a n Zone 4 O p e r a t o r s . O p e r a t o r s from f o u r o t h e r D i v i s i o n s a t W ashington Works have very low b u t m e a s u r a b le q u a n titie s of C-8 in th e ir blood. t B l o o d C-8 l e v e l s i n f e m a l e s t r a n s f e r r e d o u t o f TEFLON d r o p p e d an a v e r a g e 19% o v e r an a v e r a g e 1 6 1 - d a y p e r i o d .
