R e g a r d i n g y o u r teilephone c o n v e r s a t i o n w i t h E r n i e o n O c t o b e r 11 a n d y o u r subsequent correspondence, we a re definitely in tere ste d in analyzing ta lc sa m p le s fo r a s b e s to s . O ur c h a rg e fo r this w o rk would be $50. 00 p er sam ple, based on the official p ro c ed u re d escribed in the F e d e ra l R e g is te r (v. 38, no. 183, pg. 27080). T he r e s u lts would be d e s c rib e d in t e r m s of two p a r a m e te r s : the n u m b e r of c h ry so lite f ib e r s /m g . and the n u m b e r of am phibole ty p e fib e r s /m g .
As you know, it is often difficult to prove the identity of fibrous m ateria l by light m icroscopy, p a rtic u la rly if two or m o re p a rtic le s have n early identical refractive indices o r a re not clearly resolved at a m agnification of 430 t i m e s . E l e c tr o n m i c r o s c o p y and d iffr a c tio n of th e s u s p e c t p a r tic le s m a y be re q u ire d to p o sitiv e ly identify sp e c ific types of a s b e s to s . T h e re would be an additional ch arg e of $100 p e r sam ple for the electro n optical c h a ra c te riz a tio n of p a r tic le s in e a c h sa m p le (qualitative in fo rm a tio n only).
It w as good to h ear fro m you again, and to find th at you are still involved w ith m icroscopy. D rop m e a note if you have tim e.
