Dear Sir:
I just recently did alot of construction in my home using Georgia Pacific - Ready Mix Joint Compound, Lot #9306T11702. I didn't notice on the label till after I was completed that the material contained asbestos fiber which constituted a serious health hazard.
In sanding the Ready Mix Joint Compound on the new sheet rock I installed, I got this fine dust all over my home.
My questions are as follows: 1- How much (percentage) asbestos fiber is in your Joint Compound? 2- Is the amount in your Joint Compound (fiber) really harmful? 3- Is there asbestos fiber in sheet rock? 4- Any other information you might have on this subject I would appreciate your sending to me.
I have small children that were living in our home while I was remodeling and I am concerned about their welfare. I have heard that since 1973, the Environmental Protection Agency has banned materials containing more than 1% asbestos fiber.
I would appreciate hearing from you. Also if you have any information on asbestos fiber and various building materials I would like a copy.
Thanks For Your Time,
Craig Bumingham
