Safety There were no Lost Time or Restricted Duty injuries in the Production Department during April. A swivel fitting has been installed in one of the bin transfer lines, rectifying a fundamental design deficiency in the system which was the cause of a Restricted Duty injury in November of 1982. The fitting will be evaluated in May. April's monthly shift Safety Meeting reviewed the actions to be taken in the event of a Power Failure. II. Statistics Attachment I Attachment II - Production Summary Production Loss Report Controllable Overtime - 17.1% III. Personnel Effective April 11, 1983 Production operations were cutback due to low sales volumes. As a result, seven ICWU positions were eliminated via layoff. Reassignment of personnel has been completed, and training of these employees is in progress. Five (5) ICWU grievances were processed and discussed in April. Three of these concerns assignment of the Relief Operator, one concerns overtime, and the final concerns Long Term Disability. On April 24, 1983 Mr. George Leap, Shift Foreman, and myself took part in the 1983 March of Dimes Walkathon. IV. Costs 1) Variable cost estimated low for April due to favorable raw material prices on VCM & VAM, and favorable No. 6 oil prices. (28.36c vs. 30.03c Bud.) 2) Fixed dollar cost is estimated low for April ($407M vs. $511M Bud.) as a result of: a) Production cutback and layoff effective April 11, 1983. b) Accounting, Personnel, and Process Engineering charges being carried in Corporate S, A & R, c) Maintenance stores inventory credit of $23.6M. (13.00$ vs. 10.53$ Bud.) 4) High yield partially reflects benefits of the vinyl acetate recovery from the Waste Water Stripper. V. Major Projects and On-Going Programs Recovered vinyl acetate from the Waste Water Stripper has been successfully returned to the process since mid-April. A large filter, aimed at replacing the chip baskets, has been received and installed. This unit will be evaluated in May on a rental basis. VI. Capital Projects Nothing to report. VII. Environmental Reactor Building VCM levels averaged 0.2 ppm in April. Reactor vapors samples averaged 757 ppm in April - all were in spec.
