They have extremely high tinctorial strength and excellent 1lgbtfastness when used In high concentra tion. They possess good resistance to alkali and are widely used where this property Is desired. They also replace Chrome Yellows In many formulations In which the presence of lead cannot be tolerated. They are expected to be used in increasing amounts in the future because of the drive against lead in paints in certain areas. BENZIDINE YELLOWS Benzidine Yellows are organic toners made from 3,3'-dichlor-benzidine and aceto-acetic arylides. Compared to Permansa Yellows, regular Benzidine Yellows have higher tinting strength, but less perma nence. Ordinarily Benzidine Yellows are not used in paints, enamels or lacquers because they are not light resistant enough and they have high oil absorptions. For certain special uses, the ligbtfast types of Benzidines listed below are recommended. Resistance to heat is excellent, alkali and acid good, and light fair to poor.
