Dear Round Robin Participant
Thank you for your prompt response to the recent CTFA
Task Force on the round robin analyses of consumer talc products 1976 production for asbestiform amphibole minerals
I have received and completed a comparative work of data
from all participating laboratories with the exception of
Mount Sinai
Personnel at the Mount Sinai Environmental Sciences
Laboratory now inform that they are currently involved with
another project which precludes their participation in our round robin at this time Hopefully they will perform these
analyses at a later date
laboratory comparison of our Task Force data indicates serious inconsistencies in the results i.e. three 3 of the
commercial products have each been declared by two or three of the laboratories to have failed CTFA Method J4-1 Parts 1 and II
asbestiform amphibole detected at a level 20.5 The sample
code which is still in my possession has been released to no
one In view of this situation you are urged to attend the
meeting of this Task Force so that we might further discuss
these results and the potential sources of difficulty
It will
be necessary for us to deliberate on a further course of action
which would include special training for the analyists and
repeating the round robin
