I hate Vwt IWV# Ml* M*lll MI in various areas of the country in order indoctrinate personnel at each of the Regional Offices concerning the require' ments and use of the new Material Safety Data Sheet (Form No. LSB-00S-4L The next two Conferences will be held in Seattle, Washington, on February 23, 1971 and in Portland, Oregon on February 25. Addi tional Conferences are scheduled for Bos ton on March 11, Philadelphia on March 25 and Baltimore on April 15. Industry representatives are welcome at these Conferences and are invited to par ticipate in the question and answer peri ods. Details on location and exact time of meeting may be obtained from the DOL Regional Offices, and also will be published in COATINGS when available. President Signs Lead Paint Law The "Lead-Based Paint Poisoning Preven tion Act" was signed by President Nixon on January 14, 1971. Although the new law became effective on that date, all previ sions of the Act require implementing action by the Secretary of HEW or HUD, and the funds authorized under Titles I, II, and III of the Act still must be appreprfat- and/or allocated. Plan now to taka advantage of these important training sessions. NPVLA Plans Speciol Briefings NPVLA, U.S. Chamber Set Legislative Conferences The U. S. Chamber of Commerce has announced the scheduling of the Associa tion Legislative v-uim.,... ___----i tions. These Conferences will provide in dustry representatives with an opportu nity to listen to and question some of the National Chamber's top management exec utives as they discuss the important legis lative issues facing the country and the new 92nd Congress. The first of these Con ferences will be held in Atlanta at the Sheraton-Blltmore on February 3, 197L This will be followed by Conferences in Chicago, at the Pick Congress Hotel, on February 17, and in Austin, Texas, at the Villa Capri Hotel and Motel, on March 5. In an effort to provide additional service to its membership, the National Paint, Varnish & Lacquer Association will offer a special briefing session for Association members who have attended thasa Legis lative Conferences. Consumerism, environ mental matters and other legislative pro posals of direct concern to the coatings industry will be discussed in detail fay the NPVLA staff at these special briefings, comments will be made on the "LeadBased Paint Poisoning Prevention Act" (approved by the President on January 14, 1971), the "Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1977' (P.L 91-601) and the "Occupa tional Safety and Health Act of 197V (P.L 91-596), and how these laws will have a direct effect on paint companies. The coatings industry's experience with air and water pollution controls, and more recently with lead paint proposals and mercury problems, clearly illustrates the need for such briefings. All of the NPVLA special briefings will be held at the same hotel location as the Association Legislative Conference. The NPVLA briefings will be limited to two hours (approximately 3-5 pjn.) and will be followed by an informal reception for which there will be a nominal charge of $100 per person to cover costs.
