When com pleted# close off .on odorant, drum and liquid line connections.. NOTE? Odorant required can be added to L.P.G, at any time# but it is preferably added soon after loading starts# as the odorant becomes well mixed by the agitating action caused by loading the remainder of the car. b. Methanol is to be added - October 1 to April 30. 7 Filling the Car a. Grasp the slip tube firmly with one hand and unlock the hold-down latch with the other hand. b. Raise the slip tube slowly to about' the half-way point of the car capacity. Filling the Car (Confc.) KEY POINTS e* Open 1/4" valve on gauging tube and vent when it Is expected that the ear should be approximately half full, d. Raise or lower the slip tube at a very slow rate until liquid starts to discharge from the vent valve, e, Close vent valve and read outage gauge opposite the fixed pointer. NOTES DO NOT HOLD FACE OR ANY PART 8, Topping!Out Car a. Check outage gauge shown on the R-84* when the car Is over half full, b. Raise slip tube to a point where the tube will read an additional 4" of outage than the outage shown on the R~84. As the car fills bleed off at vent valve often enough* so that the car will not over*=fill. c. Set the slip tube at the same outage as shown on R-84 as soon as the car has filled to the first setting, d. Stand by ear with vent on slip tube open, e. Close off liquid line on rack as soon as liquid starts to discharge from the vent tube. f, Close off vapor return line on rack and liquid* and vapor loading valveson car. ! Topping Out Car (Cont.) KEY POINTS g,, Reeheck outage gauge on car with that on R~84 If outage is more than that shown on R-84* open rack valves and bring car up to required gauge. If outage is less than a half Inch of that shown on R-84* notify your super visor. h. Insert gauge and pressure readings on r-84. i. Shut down L,,P,,G. pump. 9. Take Temperature of Car a. Remove thermometer from well and quickly read temperature. b. Insert temperature on R-84. NOTEs The Shipping Department may require a temperature when car is about half full. In such cases take temperature and phone to office.. If the temperature on the car at the half way point is lower or higher than the Shipping Department used to figure the outage gauge* the contents of the car will have to be re figured and the outage gauge changed on R-84. 10. Moisture Test After the car is loaded and depending on customer specifications* it may be re quired to test for moisture by the cobaltbromide method to be sure the product is satisfactorily dry before shipment. If the test shows that the L.P.G. is web* it may often be dried by venting for a few minutes. If ear remains wet after venting for a reasonable length of time* notify your supervisor. Sample Car KEY POINTS a. Attach flexible tube from sample bomb., furnished by Laboratory onto the sampling connection In the dome housing of the car. b. Open valve on vent line of car and Inlet valve on bomb. c. Slowly open the outlet valve on the bottom of bomb and allow bomb to fill. d. Close off bomb and tank car valve when liquid appears at outlet of bomb. e. Disconnect bomb and slowly bleed small quantity from outlet for two seconds to allow space for liquid expansion. f. Tag sample bomb showing the date, product, tank car number and sphere loaded from. Store bomb in a pro tected or shady location until taken to Laboratory. 12. Disconnect Hose From Car .a. Check that all valves and vents in ear dome are closed and the liquid and vapor line valves on the rack riser are closed. b Open vent valves on rack risers into the venting system and release the liquid and vapor return hose of product and pressure. The venting system ties into a vent stack, located a safe distance from the loading rack. e. Disconnect hose and fittings from tank car and store hose on rack as provided. j WA-TEX 001817 PLANT? NOTEs If area is gaseous do not permit any truck to enter or start motor. 2. Loading Order a. Check loading order issued by Shipping Department. Do not load without order. 3. Prepare Truck For Loading a. . Weigh truck on scales and stamp tare weight on weigh ticket, b. Spot truck on rack for loading, e, Shut off truck motor. d. .Set hand brake. e. It is wound on a hand reel.. A brass plumb bob is fastened with a snap to the bottom of the tape. 4. Inage Gauge a. Ground body by firmly grasping the steel hand rail or touching the roof of the tank with the bare hand. b. General information Pump rods on reciprocating pumps and some shafts on centrifugal pumps and mixers pass through packing material . secured by packing glands much the same as valve stems, Leaks around the stem or shaft Mill occur as wear on the packing increases. This must be stopped to prevent waste and a potential source of fire. To do this, normally, a degree- of snugging up on the packing gland is required. If this does not stop the leak, re port it to the pumper. 2. Adjust Packing a. With a suitable wrench or other tool, pull the packing gland snug a thread at a time = till desired result is obtained* b. Check operation for 5 minutes by carefully placing bare hand, against packing gland. If un comfortable to the touch, the gland is too tight, causing heating which may result in damage to the parts or may, in extreme cases, cause a fire. If the packing is too tight, loosen the packing aB it was tightened that is, one thread at a time and check for heating as before. Sections of this line are insulated while others are not, so it is well to remember that if it Is used for the transfer of heavy oils, it muBt be flushed out as soon as possible after the movement. The original purpose of this system was to transfer recovered oil from the Effluent Plant to Tanks 12 & 13 or to the Crude tanks; or from Tank' 12 and 13 to the Slop tanks at the Effluent Plant, Two slop pumps (21N-G4 and 21N-G7) are so manifolded that they can take suc tion on the two slop tanks or any one of the three FC Chg. tanks. The dis charge from these pumps terminate at the crude tanks (via 16" T/n system) another section extends to the Blending Plant where it branches.
