Institute of Industrial Health _______ RECEIVED JUt 13 1967 R. N. Wh--tor SUBJECT: Epidemiologic Investigation - Vinyl Chloride Polymers Messrs. C. U. Dernehl, W. E. McCormick, and J. H. Wolfsie, as a task group of the Association's Occupational Health Committee, met last week with the Michigan University Institute of Industrial Health representatives conducting subject investigation. The Institute's representatives have now visited 25 plants, and they already have 5,000 x-rays from participating companies for study. Eleven plants are yet to be visited as soon as this can be arranged. A review of 2,000 x-rays to date indicates some existence of Raynaud's phenomenon. Other than the one company making the original disclosure, it is believed that at least two others have a definite indication of this problem and one additional is question able. At the same time, it was stressed that this condition does not appear to be widespread in the industry. Following study, the x-rays are being returned to the participating companies with the report of the Institute. The task group feels that it is important that all par ticipating companies supply their x-rays*to the Institute as soon as possible and that the survey team visit the remaining plants as soon as practicable.
