In the sprint of 1W the entire lead industry, including the alnlnct smelting and refining com panies at wall at whit* lead nano fact urert, launched an advert1tint and promotional eanpalgn through the Lead Industries Association to In crease the use of white lead. This eaapalfn is now In its third year. It is not just an advertising canpal gn but a well rounded pronotlonal drive utilising, in addition to gaoeral consumer and fern nagailne ad vertising, trade paper advertising, organised publicity, field work end other means to arrive at the objec tive - - the sale of sore white lead. The various phases of the program are described in sons detail on the following pages.

These Included such magazines as PAINTFR ft DECORATOR, AGRICULTURAL LEADERS* DIGEST, THE NATION'S AGRICULTURE, MARINE *E*8, THE PENNSYLVANIA EARNER, FIELD ft STRFAN, SOUTHERN LUMBERMAN, THE HIGHWAY MAGAZINE, AMERICAN CITY. MARINE JOURNAL, SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, PUBLIC WORKS and others.

It* effectiveness is based on co operation with lumber aanufaeturera and dealers. The campaign has bees in axlateoc* since 1954 and as a result, the whit* l*ad Industry has attained an enviable position . in Its relations with the luabr industry*
Consequently, lumber manufacturers are inserting S,000,000 painting instruc tion leaflets a year in siding at their own expense. These leaflets advise only the use of pure white lead paint or the nlghest quality nixed paint. These saw* associ ations have given strong written endorsements of white lead, used In Lead Industries Associ ation advertising. The Douglas Fir Plywood Association has Issued painting Instruction leaflets advocating the us* of pur* white lead paint exclusively*
White lead exhibits have been maintained at tha various ratall lumber dealers' state conventions each year end hundreds of meetings held with groups of dealers In the Interest of whit* lead.

In 1940 a prograa of paint demonstrations vaa sponsored saang the %-H Clubs In Iowa In an effert to educate femurs to the value of white lead as a paint pigment and show then how to nix and use whit# . lead paint. The 4-H Club paint team gave hundrada of such demonstrations before local farm eeetlngs and K teaas coapeted at the State Fair for prises offered by the Lead Industries Association. Thousands of
farners thus learned about sdilte lead froa the 4-H Club boys.
So successful was the Iowa 4-H Club program that It has been continued In Iowa and extended to Kansas. Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Georgia this year, with a total
of about 00 teaas now working on paint deaonstrstlons and telling the story of white lead. Soae (Iris teaas are also Included this year and both exterior and In terior paint la now eovared.
In conjunction with the 4-H Club work, elose
touch It being maintained with the Agrlcultural Exten
sion Service and State Agricultural Colleges so that the agricultural engineers and county agents are In a
position to Instruct the fenters with whoa they coae In

Membership la maintained In the Agricultural En gineers Association and talks on white lead delivered before that and other farm groups.
