November 15, 1960 Mr. John Coy 10, Colonial Drive Milford Ohio Dear Mr. Coy: I send you herewith a report of the findings from our examination of the articles which you brought in some days ago. You will note that the salad plate was not tested. It is not a convenient shape for such testing, and since it was clearly the same type of ware as the other pieces there was no necessity for this further test. The results are interpreted in the report, but it may be useful to comment on certain practical features of the problem with which your household is faced. No doubt you can continue to use this ware without risk to your family if you take suitable precautions. It can he used from time to time, but it should not be used regularly; you can continue to use it with foods that are essentially free of acids, if you so desire, but fruits and salads (with vinegar dressing) should be put on or in other dishes. Under these conditions the risk associated with the use of this ware will hardly be significant. Nevertheless, you may decide that this is too much of a nuisance to contend with. If this is your decision, you may decide to discard the entire set, or to return the pieces to those from whom you purchased them. In view of the lack of illness'among your family it is probably not worth while to determine, by the analysis of blood or urine, the extent if any, of their absorption of lead fx'om this source. However, if you have any concern about this matter, we can make the necessary observations that will establish the facts. I am not making a charge for the analysis since I suggested that they be made, In part, at least, for our own information. I think I should inform you that the cost to us is $12.50 per analysis. We shall probably find some means of being reimbursed for these services, but at the moment it is not clear how this can be done. This is not a veiled hint, but merely for your information. Very truly yours, N9712 Robert A, Kehoe, IS. D. Mr. John Coy 2- - November 15, 1960 P.S. The articles which you supplied have not been damaged in any way by the tests to which they were subjected. They can be picked up any day. R. A. K. H E 0008452
