In my opinion, a man on whom results of this type are obtained, should be given protection rather promptly. Otherwise, he Is almost certain to develop lead intoxication within some rea sonable period of time. I am also sending a bill to cover the actual cost of making these analyses. X refer to this as actual cost, since that is the basis on which we make charges, if any. As you pro bably realize, we engage in diagnostic work only when we con sider that It Is necessary to do so, and then to some degree at least, for the purpose of expanding our information. In this period, we certainly wish to be of all the help we can In clearing up some of the troubles of industry, but in the course of doing so, we would like to further our main effort, which is that of accumulating information on industrial lead exposure and the consequence^of 3uch exposure. Accordingly, I would appreciate It very much If you would let me have a com plete clinical record on this man and on the others on whom you expect to collect samples, I am complying with Dr. Johnston^ request to forward to you seven sets of containers for the collection of additional samples. May I warn you that the samples and the containers will have to be packed very carefully if breakage Is to be avoided. Also, I suggest that the closest attention to detail in the collection of the samples in order to avoid contamination which. If they occur, will give misleading results.
