Reviewed personnel activity to complete 1974 records and also reviewed the records of the hourly people who have been terminated, currently, due to the plant closing. There are now 25 hourly employees on the payrolI and all 23 salary employees. This will change as of 1/10/75. The 25 hourly people are working as follows: Mine Warehouse Maintenance Yard Joint System Janitor (parttime) 2 7 6 2 7 I As work Is completed In the above areas, these employees will be terminated unless they exercise their seniority and bump Into Joint System. The Joint System has only one "old" employee at this time. O.S.H.A. requires a physical examination (chest xray and pulmonary function test) for new employees In Joint System and an annual re-check. This was discussed with Jack Rauch and Irv Welbel and It was decided that we would wait until all potential "bumping" has expired and then arrangements will be made for these new employees to have the necessary physical exam completed. The same will apply to hearing tests for these employees. A baseline audiogram will be recorded for all these employees and following this we anticipate sending this approved hearing test booth to Wilmington, along with the audiometer. . Jack Rauch and I met with Francis McCargar, who has taken early . retirement (age 59). He worked In Joint System and his annual physicals have Indicated a possible mild emphysema but "not at all character Ist1c of exposure to fibrous silicates." The latest report from the doctor Indicates "check again at time of next annual physical." Francis McCargar was advised that there was nothing alarming In his report, but his was different In one way from the others. In that a reference was made to his next physical exam. Therefore, In view of his retirement, the company recommended that he take this "next" physical now, at the company's expense and consult with the doctor at that time. It was concluded that when he returns he will contact Irv Welbel and arrangements will be made to follow through on this, at that .time. Irv will advise me when he gets the above message, and the doctor will be advised to examine and counsel this Individual accordingly. Jim Hurd had previously advised that he would make contacts and handle any transfers within Georgia-Pacific for Akron employees and requested I take some steps to help locate employment for these people, other than In G-P. A visit was made to National Gypsum at Clarence Center and met with Elmer Epke, Personnel Manager and Dave Walsh, Plant Manager. Charles Gonyd, at their Buffalo Office was also contacted by phone. Currently, they have some employees on lay-off, but expressed Interest In experienced Gypsum personnel when they were hiring again. They will contact Ed Foley, for references, etc. A visit was also made to U. S. Gypsum at Oakfleld and met with John Blrstler, Personnel Manager and Terry Uren, Plant Manager. Their situation and comments were the same as stated for National, They also, will contact Ed Foley for references, etc. . A visit was made to the New York State Employment Placement Service In Batavia and met with the manager, Loren Fleming. . The attached letter to the Union amplifies facts of these visits. This letter was given to the hourly employees with their paycheck. A meeting was held with the salary people available, to discuss the Information In this letter. John Darmstedter will function as Safety Supervisor for Joint System along with his Quality duties. Reviewed with Irv Welbel, John and Bob Schlfferle certain reports and other procedures Involved In our safety program. Bob Schlfferle will go Into more detail, before he leaves, on some of these reports to help John become acquainted with these duties. This will Include O.S.H.A. records. Discussed with Ed Foley certain reports, personnel areas and E.E.O. records that will need to be handled In the new set up at Akron. Visited Thorold and Ajax after leaving Akron.
