Both study groups, old and existing protocols indicate a dermal LD50 of greater than 2020 mg/kg. This is significantly different (better) than the 1979-80 results which ranged from 200 to 1600 mg/kg. One death was observed in each group. It should be noted that there is one error in the "Time of Death" column for Group II. The lab is sending a corrected table. Grumbles November 25, 1987 ALFONIC 1618-65 COMPARATIVE DERMAL TOXICITY TESTING The results from the comparative testing of 1618-65 have been received. Briefly, in an attempt to address the unusual results from skin testing done in 1979-80 a comparison study was done using the old testing protocol and the currently accepted protocol. This was done after consultation with the toxicology laboratory director. Both test groups indicate a dermal LD50 of greater than 2.02 g/kg. Previous testing had indicated an LD50 tanging from 0.2 to 1.6 g/kg. These results, while not fully answering the questions from 1979-80, do indicate the dermal toxicity of 1618-65 can validly be considered to be substantially similar to other similar ethoxylates. The VTAC will review these results and determine how we should communicate the dermal toxicity in our technical literature in the future. I'll let you know what we decide. "X cn-------- T. G.
