We have gone over with interest your second paragraph regarding the new copy of regulations and your description of the same "each with the Tissot type of facepiece and a canister, etc." would be entirely clear to a manufacturer of gas masks. However, I am afraid there would be the possibility of a misunderstanding to the user and also cause considerable trouble in explaining to users that the m a n u facturer who was licensed under the Tissot Patents was not the only manufacturer having a facepiece and canister that was approved and acceptible to yourself and the Ethyl Corpora tion. The Tissot Type as you no doubt know, is a patented type of facepiece which actually is not manufactured by anyone at the present time. However, one manufacturer holds the patents to this Tissot Type and uses some of the Tissot Patents in their present mask. Therefore, strictly speaking this would limit the use by the users of Ethyl Gasoline to the Tissot Type of mask manufactured by one manufacturer. .- We might., suggest,, a.jdesc rip t^on- ---- -- ~~ covering the entire face (eyes, nose and mouth)/and a canister containing not less than 500 co of activated charcoal" which would give a broader " interpretation of the ruling which I understand you desire as you do not want to specify a certain make of mask but are interested only in the charcoal content of the canister.
