Oil Absorption -- Penetration Index; It was reported that the Subcommittee had reached the following conclusions: The test container shall be 55nm diameter by 35oo high. The question of tapping the container during filling is to be made optional. The Low and Medium fibre standards were found acceptable. It has been proposed to use the Low standard for samples up to an of 125 and the Hediun standard beyond 125. The preferred vehicle was reported to be SC-0 but this is no longer an official grade designation. Two possible replacenents ere SC-70 aid MC-30. The question of vehicles is to be looked into. The results of the Round Robin were said to indicate a need for avoiding multiple mixings. A new approach, based upon single mixings, is to be tried out by a new series of tests. ' 3. Fibre Strength Unit Test: ' , It was stated that the Subcommittee had reviewed the Purport of Inspection on Strength Unit Test. The review was said to have raised a masher of questions, and several studies have been initiated to provide some answers. It was indicated that the Subcommittee would report its recossaendaticsB at a later meeting. . . . It was announced that Cassiar Asbestos Corporation Limited has offered a re port on Strength Unit Research prepared by the Ontario Research foundation. This is to be passed on to the Subcasnittee as soon as available. 4. Filtration of Asbestos-Cement-Silica Mixes: A review of progress to date was made and the conclusion was offered that attempts at improving test results had not been successful. A discussion ensued and it was proposed that the Subcommittee investigate other approaches to the problem. Mr. G. F. A. Brink offered to supply the Subcommittee with a copy of. the Cape Asbestos procedure. Hr. R. J. Dodds-Hebrcn offered to scan the research proposals prepared by Dr. A. B. Cummings for the Sew 5. A3.T.M. Coacnittee D-30, Subcommittee III: Surface Area Task Group: ^ It was reported that procedures rewritten in the A.S.T.H. "'format had been sent to Q.A.M.A. Technical Committee Members for comments, and to the Task Group for approval. These will now be submitted to Subcaanittee III for letter balloting. ' I V I I 1 1 ! It was mentioned that K. Cossette would represent Q.A.H.A. on the Sampling Task Croup. ./ 6. Editorial Subconaittee: Surface Area Procedures for A.S.TJl.: Final manuscripts are completed. ^ Central source of drawings and plans; 1 All necessary drawings have been assembled and are to be tursod over to the Quebec Department of Natural Resources for redrawing. A name plate for drawings was approved Magnetic Rating Procedure: It was announced by the Chairman that a letter from Hr. <? P. Vronski of the < Fibre Testing Committee of A. T. I. had been received, inviting a delegation from Q.A.H.A. to attend a meeting of A.S.T.H. Conoittee ZM3, Subcommittee A-4, Task Group -on Evaluation of the Total Iron and Magnetic Iron Content of Asbestos and Their Effect-on the Electrical and Chemical Properties of Asbestos. The meeting will be held at the Barbison-Flaza Hotel, 106 Central Park, New York, on 19th October 1966 at 1:00 P.K. The purpose of the meeting will be to re-write procedure D1118-57 "Magnetic Rating of Asbestos Used for Electrical Purposes". The Editorial Subcommittee will wait for this meeting before proceeding with the rewriting of this procedure. 7. New Business: (a) Q.S.T. Machine 35 Heah Sieve Specifications. It was announced that the Uniform Classification & Grading Comitt.--e had decided not to publish specifications since this sieve is not part of the approved test apparatus. (b) Wanaan Cyclosizer: Data was distributed sho^.'ir.g outstanding results or-tr^nco in v-iobcc by moans of a War.nan fyclosizcr, It was the concensus of opinion that this device appears to nave merit for classification in the sub-sieve range. 8. Date and Place of the Next Meeting: An invitation to hold a meeting at Ottawa either this Fall or next Spring was discussed. It was felt that next Spring would be more appropriate since tho interesting \/ork being dona in Ottawa may have progressed further, and the trip would be even more rewarding at that time. wa An invitation to hold a r.setinz at the Quebec Department of Natural Hesourcea v&3 extended.
