METHOD: Method followed: OECD GuidelineNo. 102 (capillary/metbalock)usinga BCjchiB-545 MeltingPointApparatus. GLP: No Year study was performed: November 19,1999 Remarks: A glassmeltingpointcapillarwyas filletdoa heightofabout 1.5cm withthetest substance,packingitdown witha stainlessteelrod. The instrumentwas setfor20OC/min heatingrateinorderto determinethe approximatemeltingpoint(560C),as determinedby the instrumentsautomatic meltingpointdetection(based on opticatlransmission). Next the instrumentwas setfor0.1*C/min heat rate,startinagt54*C. There was no signofdecomposition or sublimationofthe sample. The BUchi instrumentwas lastcalibratedon November 2, 1999, usingVanillin (mp 81.50C),Phenacetin(mp 134.6*C),and Caffeine(mp 235.90C)meltingpoint standards.The measured meltingpointsforVanilliannd Phenacetinwere within the 0.2*C accuracyspecificatioonfthe standardsamples. The Caffeinemelting pointwas measured at235.40C,so the instrumentshigh-temperaturecalibration pointwas adjustedatthattime to agree withthe 235.90C standardvalue.The. recommended calibratioinntervailsI year. RESULTS The automatic meltingpointdetectionat0.1OC/min showed a meltingpointof 59.60C. However, the sample was visuallyobserved to have a meltingpoint range,startinagt550C and finishinagt600C, withmost ofthe meltingoccum'ng at 59.60C.
