Kolodner - Charlotte SUBJECT: 0S1IA MEETING Mr. Herb Kolodner, Corporate Safety Director, will present to plant supervision a talk on the Federal Occupational Safety and. Health Act, to be followed by a question and answer period. Our Plant Management Accident and Fire Prevention Committee is interested in having as many first line supervisors to attend as possible. His talk is to be tailored to this group and the respon sibility of all supervision for the implementation of the act and I our responsibility for requiring compliance with the act. i \ Three sessions have been scheduled in the Plant Cafeteria on Thursday, August 10th and Friday, August 11th so these supervisors can.attend. Other supervisors are welcome to attend and may select the session best suited to his schedule. This will be the first ii opportunity for our shift working supervision to hear Mr. Kolodner in his discussion of the law and for them to ask questions concerning its requirements. i t j The schedule for the meeting is listed below for Production and Maintenance: *> Thursday, August 10th - 2:00 p.m. to H:00 p.m. - A Shift and i D Shift ? Friday, August 11th - 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. - C Shift Friday, August 11th - 2:00 p.m. to HuOO p.m. - B Shift i Maintenance supervision may attend any of the three sessions listed above. i * This is a summary of the decisions made in discussing required physical tests in a meeting attended by Dr. N. Boyd, Dr. R. E. Koenig, A. C. Abshier, G. R. Behling, R. B. Regan and J. D. Cantrell October 9, 1975. D. 1. Employees having any contact with asbestos must have a yearly pulminary function test, chest x-ray and audiogram obtained simultaneously and on company time. The pulminary test will be given at the hospital for the present. 2. The Safety Department will make an appointment with the Clinic (after 3:00 a.m.) for the employee on advice of the Plastics Company. Testing to begin on October 20. Safety will advise the Clinic at this time if the employee has had a chest x-ray in the past year. (Chest x-rays and hearing tests are included in the annual and biannual physical examinations.) After the Clinic secures the pulminary equipment the lung function test will become part of all physicals and will be given at the Clinic. 3. After the pulminary tests become a part of all physicals and the employee has had a physical exam (on his own time) it will not be necessary for him to return to the Clinic for the pulminary function test, chest x-ray and audio, provided the physical exam is taken within the year period 4. Pre-employment, terminations and transfers must all have had the lung function, chest x-ray, and audio tests. 5. Cost of the pulminary function test done at the hospital will be $6 to $8. Clinic charges have not been determined at this time. 001181
