This is a volatile liquid with a flash point of 107F. When we notified the Production Superintendent of this, he stated that he did not want this material in the production areas of the mill. He expressed doubt that our insurance underwriters would allow us to use material of this nature. We feel that with this strong opposition to such a liquid being used here, there is no point in asking Fibre Development to test its dampening effect on our asbestos fibre in poly bags. The effect of Mineral Spirit 66 on low density polyethylene (bottles) has been reported by a chemical company as follows: 1. The surface of the P.E. bottle appears to become oily after a certain period of exposure to the material. 2. Some swelling of the P.E. bottle occurs, which, would seem to indicate that the polyethylene appears to absorb the product to a certain extent. The best suggestion would be, as Mert stated in his letter of July 16th, to supply DAP's fibre in poly bags and let them inject the Mineral Spirit 66 into the bags on receipt at their plant.
