The sample was analyzed by pyrolysis gas chromatography, infrared spectroscopy and by special chemical tests with the following results:
The polymer in the sample was identified as a fluorocarbon polymer containing a small amount of polyethyleneoxide adduct, probably nonylphenoxy (ethyleneoxy) ethanol. On heating the sample to 370C the following thermal decomposition products were identified in the vapour phase: carbon dioxide, water, a perfluorinated hydrocarbon, traces of acetaldehyde, 2-furaldehyde, some ketones and a barely detectable trace of hydrogen fluoride.
