Y* Dear Mr. Mittnacht: I enclose herewith my expense account for my trip several days ago to Detroit to see Mr* Bartholomew. I called Mrs. Bartholomew yesterday and talked with her, and you will he pleased to know, as you probably do from direct conversations with Detroit, that Mr. Barthol omew is making very satisfactory progress and seems now to be definitely on the mend* I think I should advise you at this time that in my opinion it will be months before he will be In shape to get back to his work. I am considering seriously the possi bility of having an operation done on him when he is in . shape for it, which should make him somewhat safer for the future* I have not entirely made up my mind that this is wise, but will make my decision dependent somewhat upon the speed of his recovery. In any case, the Corporation should be prepared to do Without his services for a period which might become as much as six months. I give you this Information confidentially, for I would not wish tb be saying behind Bartholomew*s back what I have not said to him, but it may be of .some use to you to know how I feel about this matter.
