GYPSUM ASSOCIATION SAFETY' BULLETIN A. The chairman requested chat the secretary relate the oenber cotipany response for safety articles to be used ir. the Bulle tin. Following a brief diseussion by the connittee, it was their recocsendation that each oenber con?any stimulate enployee partici pation by urging the plant employees to write and subnit safety P articles to the Association. v < * \ B. The connittee reviewed the Bulletin forsat and it was the consensus chat it was satisfactory in its present fora. One oenber suggested that a possible change be considered when the next Bulletin east head is -printed. The secretary indicated that present i Bulletin stock supply would be depleted at the end of the fiscal year, and at Chat tint, cOracletee suggestions would be solicited. i The ceanittee requested that the secretary construct a .* A chart showing the industry frequency racing over the past four years, as related to the all industry frequency rating reported by the 4 Hatlonal Safety Council, and print this chart in the Safety Bulletin. The secretary Indicated that such a chart wax- already being considered for the October issue.. r**1. The cocnlttee directed that this ltea be carried on the r docket. . / I / 3 2- 5 ^ tX--t+- cr ?c. The secretary submitted a "Certificate of I'.crit" award plaque for committee investigation. He informed the committee that the ward cost the Association $20.00 to purchase and sail, and re quested that they eight consider adopting an award that sight have greater utility for the winner, such as an ash tray or pen set. The committee, after such discussion, directed the secretary to obtain a less costly certificate and also purchase an ash tray for the award winners. following a thorough review of the last three editions of Che Safety Bulletin, the cossittee selected one article by ballot. The article "Did You Bet Your Life?" by Val Robertson, Assistant Pro duction Superintendent, The Flir.tkcte Ccspar.y, Blue Diamond Gypsur. Division, Present, California (August 1957) vcr. the award. llr. Robertson will receive a certificate and inscribed ash tray for his contribution to safety. 3 . ATP. ATT STPZAV PCLL1T1??? The chairman cited a few pollution problems involving plants on a local level. He stressed the importance of all com.ittee rcer.bers keeping abreast with local, state, and federal pollution programs. One eember noted a recent problem involving the asbestos in dustry where a number of lur.g carcinoma cases hac been reported by inhabitants of the neighborhood surrounding s: asbestos pier.:. 1c was further noted that clinical tests and investigations had resulted ir. legal action against the manufacturer by the claimants. The chairman Indicated that air and water pollution problems would have a dramatic effect on all industries and that the committee should take the initiative to maet any such problems head or. if they should occur in the gypsum industry. Following a discussion of pollution problems in various in dustries, it vas the consensus that the safety committee should have a mure active pregram in-this area, outlining the problems that exist and what steps have been taken to solve them.
