The plant has approximately 2890 employees. Approximately 2600 physical examinations are performed each year. There are approx imately 33,000 visits to the medical unit each year. The medical unit is inadequate in area. There is only one cot room (ward). This room is shared by males and females. The ECG's are also performed in this room. Privacy is very difficult to maintain in this area. The pulmonary function tests are performed in the treatment room. Often several employees are being treated at the same time. Privacy is also very difficult to maintain in this area. Filing space is adequate for present needs. However, the room where the records are kept is nearly full. Some action will have to be taken to improve the utilization of this area. One solution would be to purchase Lektriever automatic files. Another solution would be to microfilm the medical records. Inactive records should be sent to the Ha.ll of Records. B. Equipment 1. Emergency equipment includes 4 wall oxygen units in the cot room, 3 portable oxygen units, and an Ambu bag. A 5-year old Travenol defibrillator is available. Several portable emergency kits are present. 2. Vision Testing A Keystone vision tester is used. 3. Audiometric Testing The audiometer is a Betone manual instrument which was purchased in 1981. It was calibrated in June, 1981 to ANSI 1969 specifications. The audiometer is tested daily with a normal subject prior to the start of testing. The test results are initialed once a month by Dr. Power and filed. The sound proof booth was inspected for background noise in December, 1980. All employees receive annual audiograms. If an employee is transferred to a high noise area, he receives a repeat audiogram 3 to 6 months after his assignment to the area. DUP 0908641
