LEAD INDUSTRIES ASSOCIATION CELEBRATES' FCNIT-FIFTH AHKIYEKSARX Tomorrow, representstires of some seventy lead producing and consuming companies will gather at The Greenbrier, 'Jhlte Sulphur Springs, West Virginia 9 to celebrate the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Lord Industries Association. The Association was founded in 1918 by a group of ten lead companies who under wrote fie expense of a vertical association representing both the producers and considers ol' lead, an unusual idea at that time and one which has cone to be recognized as providing the most benefit to the public at large. The founding fathers of the Association set as their objectives the dissemination of accurate information regarding lead products and how best they could be used; the develop ment of methods for the L proveaent of the welfare of those engaged in the lead Industries or in the use of its products; the promotion of serviceability of the lead industries to the community; and the collection and publication of statis tical information relating to the production, distribution, marketing, con sumption and use of lead and lead products. Since its founding, the Association has grown to number some seventy maaber companies including associate members representing the important foreign lead producers from Ccnada, llexico, Africa, Australia and tarn. Crane, Board chairman of the St, Joseph Lead Co., aerred as president of the Association from Us Inception until 1916 when he retired and was succeeded by Felix E. Wormser, vice president of St. Joseph Lead Co., who had originally served as secretary-treasurer of the Association froa 1926 to 19li7. Robert Llndley Zlegfeld, assistant secretary froa 1929, succeeded Ur. Toreser In 19li7 as secretary-treasurer. The Association has expanded in its twenty-five years froa a staff of two to sixteen and today Includes specialists In virtually all fields affecting the lead Industry. For example, the present staff consists of specialists In metallurgy, chemical engineering, chemistry, plashing, mining, and industrial health, all of whom are qualified to render expert technical service to users of lead products. 0 Besides offering technical and economic services to both members and their customers, a big part of the Associative work is rendering these ser vices to the military and other governmental organizations.
