VanWormer copy: A. Bau, J. Clark, C. Meyer, P. Mason, T. Wcigley From: L. Sengewalt - Axle & Brake Division Headquarters-Galesburg Subjed: COINED SHOE AT OSHKOSH TRUCK At the request of Oshkosh Truck, Eaton has stockpiled an inventory of asbestos linings to protect them until a suitable non-asbestos lining could be approved. We have sufficient inventory to ship production axles for the HEMTT program until June of 1988 with asbestos linings. However, we had requested Oshkosh change to a coined shoe sooner than June of 1988 when the non-asbestos linings would be phased in. Wb have also comnltted to supply asbestos linings for the LVS program into 1989, because of a large supply of asbestos linings. Here again we have requested Oshkosh agree to change to a coined shoe. I have now been Informed by Oshkosh that they will delay the coined shoe change for the HEMTT program until the non-asbestos change takes place in June, 1988. They will, however, attempt to change brakes for the LVS program to a coined shoe. I must prepare as official Eaton request to Oshkosh including drawings and cost impact for the LVS coined shoe proposal before Oshkosh will approach the Marine Corp.
