We all should be particularly pleased with our work product since the membership saw fit to overwhelmingly support the modifications (97.7% for and 2.3% against). As I look back on the challenge we all faced, it is gratifying to look at the contributions each and every one of you have made. It was obvious from the beginning that all parties involved had the best interest of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and its members at heart. When that is the case the results should be good, and I believe the vote and the final product are testimony to that fact. Grumbles January 31, 1986 PROGRESS REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING JANUARY 31, 1986 VK1A 1. Conducted an Industrial Hygiene Assessment at the Lake Charles Chemical Plant. The report is being drafted. 2. Met with the outside attorney assigned to the HF release lawsuits in Lake Charles. It is now known that Conoco was sued by the same parties for injuries resulting from a refinery release that day. 3. The Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal by Ethyl, Firestone, and Occidental that the VCM air emission standard is unenforceable. This arose out of lawsuits filed against these companies for relief valve discharges. Cases against several companies that were stayed pending the Supreme Court outcome will become active again. This will not effect us, since our three lawsuits are being settled out of court. 4. EPA Region VI provided us a draft letter for our review regarding their position on Reactor Opening Loss at OKC. We will discuss internally and get back to EPA. 5. Drafted new Material Safety Data Sheets for Heavy Aromatic Distillate, Acetylene and Acetone. 6.
