Bldg TOXICITY REPORT ON HYDRAULIC FLUIDS 03-81. 03-8? Attached Is a copy of the report from Younger Laboratories on the toxlolty studies of the subject fluids. The data in the report may be summarized as follows Oral Toxicity In Rats OS-81 -- (see 03-81 file) OS-83 -- The Oral LD50 of this fluid was plaeed at 34.3 grams per kilogram witn lower and upper limits of 32.6 to 36.5 grams per kilogram. This Indicates that the compound is rela tively harmless from a standpoint of oral ingestion. Oral Toxicity In Rabbits 03-81 -- (See OS-81 file) OS-83 -- The Minimum Lethal Dose in rabbits for this fluid was 4.25 to 5.00 grams per kilogram. The animals in this experiment did not appear to develop any paralytlo symptoms, These data Indicate considerable difference between the rat and rabbit work also. These data Indicate that this fluid is only slightly toxic from a standpoint of oral In gestion to rabbits. Skin and Eye Irritation In Rabbits' OS-81 -- (See OS-81 file) OS-83 -- This fluid was also tested for skin and eye Irritation. These, tests indicate that this fluid is a rather mild skin irritant with a score of 0.3 out of a possible 8.0 and a mild eye Irritant with a score of 10.0 out of a possible 110.0. . . Vapor Inhalation In Rata j . j OS-81 -- (See OS-81 file) OS-83 -- The same tests were performed using OS-83 with practloally the same results. It oan be concluded, therefore, that the vapors of both OS-81 and OS-83 arc only mildly lrri- tating to rats. In general It can be concluded from these results that OS-83 le at best only slightly toxlo by oral Ingestion and Is a mild eye and skin Irritant. 08-81 is at worst moderately toxic by oral Ingestion and Is only a mild skin and eye Irritant. ,, ' Jack T.
