On February 7, 1990 Frank Jeanson and I visited M&M Chemical Co. in Attalla, AL to qualify them as an option for recycle of Aberdeen burnable residues. We met with the General Manager, Don Burris. M&M Chemical Co. appears to operate a good facility in a responsible manner. They are a viable option for future processing of Aberdeen burnable residues. Following are specifics noted during the site visit: 1. M&M is a subsidiary of Solite Corp. of Richmond, VA. One of Solite's main products is light weight aggregate produced from calcining various materials such as shale. M&M and a sister facility, Dldover Corp. in Virginia collect burnable residues and blend them to fire b kilns owned by Solite. 2. M&M has had a Part B permit since January, 1984. 3. Other customers of M&M include Reynolds Westinghouse, Westvaco, Unocal, Tricil, 3M, AH Reichhold, GE, Burlington lnd., BASF. Metals Robins, 4. 5olite purchased M&M from the founder in September, 1986. 5. Their 1990 goal is to process 13 MM gal. of burnable residues. 6. Residues are received in drums and by tank trailer. 7. M&M's permit allows them to process F001, F002, F003, F005, D001, and most U wastes. They cannot accept P was tes. 8. Empty drums are sent to M&M Steel Drum Co. in Gadsden, AL for reconditioning. Frank and I visited this facility and talked with the plant manager, Guy Kilgore. M&M Steel Drum Co. seemed to be a well run, relatively clean operation. 9. Solids disposal seems to be In summary, both M&M Chemical and M&M Steel Drum appear to be reasonable risks for Vista, comparable to the risks we are currently taking with other similiar vendors. cc: FGJ, RWB, RBN, DLC, WLM VEV 000032847
