Scott Tucker - St. Lo^s.^ Textiles Division D. W. Brubaker B. T. Dean .; We arc sending you one 5-pint sample received from Dr. Tom Dukes, Head Bureau of Fisheries. This sample bears their label and Sample No. 201. It also carries our designation Monsanto sample No. 2084. Dr. Dukes told us that this sample was obtained just outside of Monsanto's bulkhead where the Plant outfall enters the Escambia River. Since the outfall flow was sub stantial, they believe the sample Is equivalent to cur.waste stream. Mr. Alfred J. Wilson of their chemical laboratory had analyzed this sample and reported a level of Aroclor 1254 of 274 ppb. They are most anxious for Monsanto to check their findings. I am enclosing Mr. Wilson's procedure for analysis of pesticides In marine animals. Basically his method of analysis for aqueous samples Involves extraction of the entire sample including solids with pet ether/acetonitrile, concentration of extract and VFC using an E.C. detector. I am also enclosing his VPC scan of an earlier sample taken at the same location which analyzed 41 ppb together with his scan of a Aroclor 1254 standard.
