Dear Dr, Fleming, r* There has been a lot of discussion here reoently amongst the industrial medloal fraternity concerning the problem of mesothelioma of the pleura and peritoneum in asbestos workers. One of the most sinister facts appears to be the discovery of mesothelioma in insulation workers who have had a relatively light exposure to asbestos. There is a fair amount of lagging done with asbestos at Xaydown, and Z wonder if you oould enlighten me as to any reoent findings in America in this field. Is asbestos used generally throughout the Company as a lagging material, and if so, what is the medloal feeling as to It's safety, not only at present but from a future .point of view? I look forward to your reply on this matter, as I feel there may well be a general outory here in the near future, particularly from Shipyard Vorkers, following a recent press report about the dangers of asbestos.
