Kehoe Professor Emeritus of Occupational Medicine University of Cincinnati Kettering Laboratory Eden & Bethesda Avenues Cincinnati, Ohio 45219 Dear Dr. Kehoe: I can't thank you enough for your prompt and elaborate response to my request for ammunition for our lawyers to answer / the Petition by the Environmental Defense Council when and if any such answer is required. As we discussed, I understood fully that your comments would not necessarily be in a form appropriate for the lawyers to embody in an answer, but rather what we needed was the general tone and approach to an answer. I have carefully read your comments over the weekend, al though obviously they require more study than I have been able to give them so far. I am making xerox copies for our lawyers so that they can start work on the preparation of the type of brief that we might have to file at some time in the future. At the moment, we have persuaded representatives of the Environmental Defense Council to visit our Detroit Laboratories to see the type of work that we are doing in hopes that they may better understand the overall con troversy. It is our belief that they will not file any form of suit in the courts until they have discussed the matter with us further. Accordingly, I don't know what type of schedule we may be on in the .future, but I am certain that your comments will be of the greatest help to our lawyers in getting ready for all eventualities. I assume George Roush is keeping you posted generally on the developments in Japan as they unfold. I know he still wants to Dr. Robert A. I will keep you posted on any new developments on the Environmental Defense Fund matter and will be .looking forward to seeing you again one of these days before too long.
