Kaldenberg Paul Siems Bubba Bean The Fourth Quarter Safety and Housekeeping Inspection for Dept. 53 was conducted by Don Kaldenberg, Paul Siems, Bubba Bean and Bob Hammann on 1/24/84. Overall the department was in satisfactory condition. Please respond to the following comments in writing to J. G. Trafton with carbon copy to Steve Moncla by 2/21/84. General Comments Implementation of the hearing protection program was well under way. It is the feeling that the department should reconsider the need for a vaporproof suit. There is only one suit in the area and it does not fit all personnel. Personal Knowledge of Safety Have outdated version of P-0105. Personal Safety Equipment 1. Used air mask in box near SO2 area. 2. Contract insulators in purification area not wearing cover goggles. (Put them on when they saw inspection team.) Condition of Safety Equipment 1. Broken safety chain on top of ladder at V1-1. 2. Breathing air manifold boxes on top of the E6`s need to be revised and braced. They are supported only by 1/4" nipple. Also need to make them more accessible. Safety Hazards 1. Bag of discarded asbestos material on ground by 53T8-2. 2. The following scaffold needs attention: By 53E100 - needs more handrail; by 53H3 - no toe boards and planks without cleats; on top of purification structure - one section has no toe boards. Also hose for the portable grinder which was not in use was strung all over the place creating a tripping hazard. 4. No bleed on air station by northwest side on top of switch condensers. Housekeeping 1. Instrument room cluttered. 2. Laboratory messy. 3. Outside of north door to control room, hot PA drip, presently barricaded, needs to be stopped. 4. Full waste dumpster on south side of unit. 5. South side of department storage area cluttered. 6. Insulator shack cluttered. 7. Storage building on southwest corner of the unit is in terrible condition. 8. Insulation pads and trash by 53H4 steam drums. / dgb R. T.
