INSTRUCTIONS TO LEAD EXPOSED WORKERS Ledloy steel has been produced in this plant for more than a year. During this period all men most exposed to lead fumes have had a monthly blood examina tion at the clinic to determine if workers are absorbing lead. A great number of lead determinations have been made of air samples taken when steel of this type is made and rolled. To date there has been no evidence to show that workmen in this plant are absorbing lead. It is our wish now to carry those studies even further. Arrangements have been made vdth Kettering Laboratory of the University of Cinncinnati Medical school to examine urine and stool specimens of workers after the making of Ledloy steel. Those specimens will be analyzed for lead. In order that the study can be done with greatest scientific accuracy a few carefully chosen men have been asked to co-operate. You arc one of those men. Your superintendent has recommended you on the basis of your reliability and intelligence. This is a serious scientific study, and you must recognize the important part you are playing in it. The rules on the attached sheets must bo followed to the letter. Review them carefully many times. If you can not comply with them ploase say so before this study starts. There must positively be no feeling of horseplay or fun on the pa.rt of any man taking part. On the day following your next exposure to Ledloy steel you must do the following three things. 1 Begin collecting urine in the large con tainers provided for that purpose. You should begin to collect this sample at home as soon as you have finished your turn of work and aj^tor you have changed clothes and cleaned yourself. 2.
