Safety Safety attitude and performance of the D&R Contractor is very good. They enforce the use of protective safety equipment with little to no pressure from plant personnel. Their use' of motorized equipment in handling vessels and making heavy lifts tin the area has complied with written safety rules for contractors on plant. Weekly Monday morning. rigging, heavy stressed daily. safety meetings are conducted by Levy every Additional meetings are held to discuss unusual lifts, etc. Emphasis on personal safety is Asbestos removal is conducted properly. - The plant moni tors the asbestos removal. To date, we have not picked up asbestos fibers with our monitors. The bags and dump site used are provided by the plant. We have used 30 M bags (35# to 50# of asbestos) in asbestos removal to date. We continually remind Levy supervision, an injury free day is a day's work well done. This is their, and our, goal. In summary, safety has played a big part in Levy's dismantlement work. They are head and shoulders above any D&R contractors I have witnessed on other job sites. Housekeeping Demolition sites are normally cluttered with debris. This has been kept to a minimum. Excess ways to the area are kept clean. Material is hauled daily to the processing area for shipping. When removal is faster then processing, we have had to remind them to concentrate on the process area. These requests are done promptly. DUP 0840909 2 In j uries Levy ended 1984 with 17 minor injuries, 1 lost time injury, 3 high potential injuries, and 1 restricted work case. Each high potential injury was reviewed with Levy supervision. Steps were taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring. Changes in work practices and conditions were made to improve safety. Levy has adapted very well to on plant safety requirements. Off Plant Injuries Levy has had 4 off plant loss time injuries, 1 sunburn, 1 cut foot, 1 injury due to a fall, and 1 car accident. Equipment PM and Safety Daily inspections and preventative maintenance are performed on all cranes and motorized equipment owned by Levy. They have shopped their cranes several times with questionable leaks and cable conditions without regard to their work schedule. Their equipment is in better condition than most rf&R contractors I have witnessed. Work Progress Over 4 MM lbs. of carbon steel have been processed and shipped to a smelter. Over 800 M lbs. of stainless steel and other exotic metals have been processed for smelting. Approxi mately 85% of asbestos removal is done. Buildings 518 and 514 ajre down to Ground Floor. Concrete work has begun in the Tank Farm areas. Approximately 65% of D&R Project D-3588 is complete. MRS Equipment Sales Aimost all equipment purchased by Investment Recovery (MRS) Group has been removed and shipped. Items requiring 400 ton crane for handling are the only pieces left. These should be removed by the end of January 1985. Summary Dismantlement D-3558 is 3 months ahead of schedule. Contractor's safety performance has been very good.
