Grumbles September 28, 1988 STEPAN ETHER SULFATE/DIOXANE MEETING VISTA The meeting was held at Stepan on September 23. Meeting minutes will be published at a later date by Jordan Layer, however, below are significant specific points regarding the regulatory and product liability issues raised. 1. Stepan has had an internal "no ship" specification of 999 ppm for 1-4 dioxane to assure OSHA hazard communication labeling standards were met. 2. Stepan has done personnel exposure surveys for dioxane in the ether sulfate production and handling areas. Stepan indicated very low exposures were found and will be sending us the past monitoring results. 3. Stepan has begun measuring 1-4 dioxane content of every batch and the monthly summaries we receive in the future will be more meaningful, . 4. Multiple studies and actions have been taken to reduce dioxane formation during the ether sulfate production. More actions will be taken in the future. 5.
